'The King's Warden' success draws visitors to Yeongwol filming sites; Gangwon Film Commission expands location attraction with 18 cities and counties

As the success of the film 'The King's Warden' has drawn attention to its filming locations in Yeongwol, Gangwon Province is moving to attract more film and video productions to the province. The Gangwon Film Commission, affiliated with the Gangwon Cultural Foundation, said on the 29th that it will work with the province's 18 cities and counties to discover new filming locations and strengthen administrative support such as filming permits. As the Yeongwol-set film became a hit, more tourists have visited its filming sites, highlighting the tourism-boosting effect of screen content. In response, the commission decided to broaden its search for locations beyond existing tourist attractions to idle facilities, industrial sites and everyday living spaces, and to strengthen cooperation among cities and counties. On the 28th, the commission held its first working-level workshop at the Kkumteul Eoullim Center in Hoengseong, attended by officials in charge of attracting productions from the 18 cities and counties. Kim Tae-young, CEO of Location Market, presented cases of filming locations revitalizing local economies. The commission plans to share location information by city and county and strengthen permit coordination and administrative support to make filming easier for production crews. Shin Hyun-sang, CEO of the foundation, said, "Attracting video productions is an opportunity to develop hidden local spaces into new cultural and tourism resources."
