SBS’s Friday variety show ‘Whatever You Wish – Secretary Jin’ showed Lee Seo-jin and Kim Kwang-kyu spending a day as one-day managers for girl group RESCENE (WONI, MINAMI, LIV, MAY and ZENA). The episode, which aired on Oct. 2, reached a peak per-minute rating of 4.9%. RESCENE, now so busy that they receive 100 booking calls a day and handle 40 schedules a week, opened up about their days as unknowns. “We’re a small company that started with nothing, and our CEO gathered us one by one,” WONI said. “I thought performing on stage would be a given after debut, but even after debuting we had no chances to perform. We released songs but couldn’t even appear on music shows.” The members recalled performing at small events such as elementary school sports days and stages in front of community centers before their YouTube content and the ‘Yaho’ meme spread by word of mouth and made their name. The hosts, with an average age of 56.5, and RESCENE, averaging 20.6, showed generation-gap moments as wide as their 35.9-year age difference. At an outdoor ad shoot, Kim Kwang-kyu looked after them with drinks and umbrellas, and Lee Seo-jin sprayed bug repellent for the members. When RESCENE said they had not yet received their first settlement, Lee advised them to save their money carefully once it comes, offering practical tips on thrift and avoiding scams, including rental fraud. At the end of the episode, a hidden-camera surprise celebrated WONI’s YouTube channel reaching one million subscribers by disguising her Gold Button as a pot stand for ramen. Kim Kwang-kyu cheered them on, saying, “I realized these girls had been rowing all along, and the tide came in at just the right time.” ‘Secretary Jin’ airs every Friday at 11:10 p.m., with Seo Jang-hoon appearing in the next episode.
