‘The King’s Warden’ opens Korean Film Week 2026 in Brussels to a sold-out crowd of about 370

Korean Film Week 2026, organized by the Korean Cultural Center in Belgium and the EU, opened on the evening of October 1 (local time) at Cinéma Palace, a historic theater in central Brussels. Under the theme ‘intrigue’, this year’s event screens five recent Korean films, starting with director Jang Hang-jun’s ‘The King’s Warden’ (Wang-gwa Saneun Namja). The opening screening of the film, the second-highest-grossing Korean film of all time, played to a full house after its roughly 370 seats sold out early, and audiences were absorbed for two hours in the story of the ill-fated Joseon king Danjong and the villagers at his place of exile. According to JKN, Ambassador Lee Byung-do attended the opening ceremony. From October 2 to 5, the event moves to Cinéma Galeries to screen director Kim Do-young’s ‘If We’, Park Beom-su’s ‘Victory’ and Lee Sang-min’s ‘Salmokji’, closing with ‘Confession’ (directed by Yoon Jong-seok), starring So Ji-sub, which won Best Director and Best Actor at the 2022 Fantasporto festival. Helped by coverage from Belgian public broadcaster RTBF, tickets for three films have already sold out, with an average price of 11 euros (about 18,000 won). The center provides subtitles in English, French and Dutch and gave Hangul-shaped cookies to opening-night guests.
