Ahead of BTS’s first full-group visit, the city of Bogotá, Colombia, has officially named the group ‘Huéspedes de Honor’ (Honored Guests). The city announced the designation on September 30 (local time) through Decree 413, and local outlet El Universal reported that it is the first such designation in Bogotá in about ten years. The honor is granted by the mayor of Bogotá to distinguished visitors who have contributed to citizens’ well-being or the city’s development in fields such as politics, public service, the arts, sports, science and education. The city cited BTS’s role since its 2013 debut in raising the international profile of Korean music and culture and its influence on younger generations. Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán said, “BTS is more than just a band,” adding, “We want those who come to the concerts and visit Bogotá to experience the city itself.” The Bogotá Tourism Observatory, under the city’s tourism institute, expects concertgoers at the two shows on October 2 and 3 to spend more than 99 billion Colombian pesos (about 40.6 billion won) on food, lodging, local transport and shopping. Flight bookings to Bogotá for September 30 to October 4 rose 46.6% year on year (domestic 59.3%, international 39.5%), and 18.4% of tickets were sold outside Colombia, roughly twice the usual share for local concerts. The city will light up City Hall and the landmark Torre Colpatria in purple and run eight additional public transport routes from stations near the venue to major areas, timed to the end of each show. Bogotá is the starting point of BTS’s South American tour and marks the group’s first full-group concert in Colombia. The tour then continues to Lima, Santiago, Buenos Aires and São Paulo.
