Breads launched by convenience store chain CU in collaboration with girl group RESCENE are proving popular thanks to the fandom's buying power. According to BGF Retail on the 30th, cumulative sales of CU's “BAKE405” RESCENE collaboration breads as of the 28th were 220,000 for Wonee's corn cream bread, 120,000 for Zena's strawberry jam sandwich and 50,000 for May's cinnamon roll. Wonee's corn cream bread, the first released on September 17, sold 99% of its initial supply of 30,000 within 24 hours and about 100,000 units in four days. Riding the popularity, Minami's melon bread was added on the 29th and Liv's chocolate hotteok on the 30th. Each product contains one of 27 limited-edition clear photo cards featuring the members at random, prompting fans to buy repeatedly to get the cards they want. The Kookmin Ilbo noted that bread has emerged as a leading “goods” item driving short-term trends in retail. GS25's four “Minumsa breads,” launched with publisher Minumsa on August 21, also topped 1 million cumulative sales within four weeks, and according to Shinsegae Food, second-quarter sales of convenience store bakery products such as sandwiches and packaged bread rose 70% from the first quarter.
