RM (real name Kim Nam-joon), leader of BTS, has donated 100 million won to be used for acquiring works for the National Museum of Korea. The museum announced on the 30th that RM made the donation the previous day, the 29th, through the National Museum of Korea Foundation, the museum's support organization. The foundation plans to use the funds to purchase cultural heritage items and artworks needed by the museum and donate them to its collection. RM said, “I am happy to be able to support the museum as the National Museum of Korea's global ambassador,” adding, “I will continue to help promote the museum and our culture.” RM was appointed in June this year as the museum's first-ever global ambassador, and this donation comes about three months later. In 2020 he donated 100 million won through the MMCA Foundation to support a project distributing about 4,000 art books introducing Korean artists and exhibitions to 400 public and school libraries nationwide, and in 2021 and 2022 he gave 100 million won each to the Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation under the Korea Heritage Service. The foundation used the funds to publish “IT'S__HERE,” a catalogue of 24 Korean paintings held by museums and galleries abroad. The National Museum of Korea said it expects RM's ongoing support for culture and the arts to raise public interest in Korean cultural heritage and the museum. Meanwhile, RM will open a special exhibition on October 3 (local time) at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), presenting his personal collection at a museum for the first time.
