BTS win their first 'Song of the Year' at the MTV VMAs, sweeping three awards including Best K-Pop and Best Group

BTS won three awards, including the top-tier 'Song of the Year', at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). At the ceremony held on the 27th (local time) at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, the group received Song of the Year for 'SWIM', the title track of their fifth studio album 'ARIRANG', and also took Best K-Pop and Best Group. In the Song of the Year category, BTS beat nominees including 'Golden' from the soundtrack of the Netflix animated film 'KPop Demon Hunters', Madonna and Sabrina Carpenter's 'Bring Your Love', and Ella Langley's 'Choosin' Texas'. It is the first time BTS have won this award at the VMAs, and K-pop has now taken the category for two consecutive years following BLACKPINK Rosé's 'APT.' last year. BTS won in every category they were nominated for. Best Group is their fifth win in the category after four consecutive wins from 2019 to 2022, extending their own record for the most wins in the category. Best K-Pop is their fourth win, following 2019 through 2021. The members, who did not attend the ceremony due to scheduling reasons, said through their agency that the award is all the more meaningful because 'ARIRANG' is an album that feels like a new beginning for them, and that the seven of them will continue to present good music and performances together. They also thanked their fandom, ARMY. BTS will begin the South American leg of their 'ARIRANG' world tour in Bogotá, Colombia, on the 2nd of next month (local time), holding 14 shows in five cities: Bogotá, Lima in Peru, Santiago in Chile, Buenos Aires in Argentina, and São Paulo in Brazil.
