NCT DREAM member Jaemin sparked controversy over 3 million won (approximately 30 gift cards of 100,000 won each) in Shinsegae mobile gift cards that he gifted to fans on White Day, March 14th. Jaemin shared the gift cards through a fan communication platform in barcode image format, essentially making them first-come-first-served. On March 15th morning, when some fans visited E-mart locations to exchange the codes for physical gift cards, a significant number were found to have already been used before the store's 10 a.m. opening time, raising suspicion. Notably, multiple gift card transactions were discovered at the E-mart Gumi branch in North Gyeongbuk Province, leading fans to question whether store employees exchanged the cards before opening. Subsequently, posts appeared online claiming to be from the gift card users themselves, with one stating they exchanged 9 cards and requesting the controversy cease, though some claimed an employee was fired. E-mart announced on March 16th that it was conducting an internal investigation to determine the exact circumstances and would implement follow-up measures based on findings, while also strengthening gift card issuance and exchange management standards. Meanwhile, Jaemin sent additional gift cards to some fans to address the situation; however, concerns have been raised that barcode-sharing first-come-first-served events could be exploited.
