BTS Challenges 2026 VMA 'Song of the Year' Amid Grammy Boycott

BTS is vying for major awards at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) while maintaining their Grammy boycott position. On the 18th, BTS's title track 'SWIM' from their 5th studio album 'ARIRANG' was announced as a nominee for VMA's coveted 'Song of the Year' category. This marks the group's second nomination in this category since their 'Dynamite' nomination in 2021. 'SWIM' will compete against prestigious artists including Madonna and Sabrina Carpenter, and Pink Pantheress and Zara Larsson. Although BTS was nominated in the same category in 2021, they did not win, making this year a chance for their first win in this major award category. Additionally, BTS is also nominated for the 'Best K-pop' category, competing in two categories overall. If BTS wins, it would mark two consecutive years of K-pop artists winning 'Song of the Year,' following BLACKPINK's Rosé's achievement last year.
