Red Velvet Returns with 'Velvet Summer' Mini Album, Showcasing Mature Summer Sensibility

Red Velvet has made a complete comeback with all five members after more than two years. In an interview with Billboard Korea, member Joy stated that the new mini album 'Velvet Summer' aims to present "a softer and more leisurely summer instead of the previous bright and energetic concept," adding that "at their 12th year since debut, they felt ready to capture a more mature summer that best represents Red Velvet today." The mini album features five tracks that freely traverse various genres including bossa nova, reggae, dance pop, classical, and acoustic, delicately depicting temperature changes. The title track 'Surfin' Boy' layers bossa nova guitar and reggae rhythm over refined house beats, creating a differentiated atmosphere from their previous refreshing summer songs. Throughout their 12-year career, Red Velvet has built a unique identity between the vibrant energy of 'Red' and the soft allure of 'Velvet,' constantly expanding the expressive range of female idols through songs like 'Peek-A-Boo,' 'Zimzalabim,' and 'Dumb Dumb.' Joy has honed her songwriting skills through solo activities and contributed as sole lyricist for both the title track and 'Hawaii' on this album. Red Velvet has achieved Billboard 200 chart entry and four number-one positions on the World Album Chart.
