SHINee's Onew Expands Musical Horizons with Composition Credit on Fifth Mini Album 'TOUGH LOVE'

SHINee's Onew takes on a new creative challenge by participating in composition for the first time since his debut. On March 9 at 6 PM KST, he will release his fifth mini album 'TOUGH LOVE,' where he contributes both lyrics and composition to the title track bearing the same name, expanding his musical endeavors. To prepare for this album project, Onew met directly with several renowned overseas songwriters for collaboration, blending the vocal colors he has established through domestic activities with musical attempts based on exchanges with global creative teams. The album is structured around a concept that views love not as a singular standardized emotion but through different scenes and atmospheres, weaving together various facets of love like pages in a novel. The tracks showcase different temperatures and genres—'Dot dot dot (...)' features minimalist R&B with sensorial vocals, 'Flex on me' adds nostalgic colors through a heavy bassline and groovy rhythm, 'Lie' unfolds with Onew's distinctive cool and dry emotional tone within a deep sound texture, and 'X, Oh Why?' employs paradoxical placement of explosive drops and escalating beats. The album preview video was released on Onew's official YouTube channel on the 26th, featuring behind-the-scenes concept photo shoots and presenting how the atmosphere of love changes across tracks. Through this project, Onew transcends his role as a vocalist, expanding his position as both an artist and producer while extending his musical spectrum beyond the domestic scene to the global stage.
