K-pop Preference Differs by Country: RIIZE Tops Korea, aespa China, TWICE Japan

According to Kakao Entertainment's Melon Global K-Chart survey released on June 1st, K-pop artist preferences differ significantly across South Korea, China, and Japan. The Global K-Chart, newly launched by Kakao Entertainment in 2024, integrates data from major music streaming platforms in each country—Melon, Tencent Music, and LINE Music—along with fan activity metrics to measure global K-pop influence. In the June 22-28 weekly rankings, South Korea's top spot went to RIIZE under SM Entertainment, with fifth-generation idol groups dominating upper positions. China's chart showed aespa at number 3, featuring Chinese member Ningning, while Chinese members and groups with Chinese artists occupied higher rankings. Japan's chart was dominated by JYP Entertainment artists, with TWICE ranking 2nd. BTS maintained top-tier positions across all three countries, demonstrating its transcendent global influence regardless of nation.
