BLACKPINK's Jennie Immortalized as New Fish Species Name

A newly discovered fish species has been named after BLACKPINK's Jennie, becoming a notable story. On the 17th, the international academic journal 'Zoosystematics and Evolution' officially named a new goby species discovered on Hengqin Island in Guangdong, China as 'Brachygobius jennie,' with the scientific name incorporating 'jennie' from Jennie's English name. The common name is 'Jennie's Bumblebee Goby.' The fish species is extremely small, with adult body length under 9mm, distinguished from existing species by unique stripe patterns and genetic differences. The lead researcher Jiangyan Tian revealed that he was inspired by Jennie's music during his school years, stating that her music provided significant strength during difficult periods of his research. While the scientific community occasionally names new species after influential figures, naming a species after a K-pop artist represents a particularly interesting and noteworthy case.
